Is This My Dress?

The last couple of years have given way to the look of one shoulder dresses and wedding gowns have been no exception. I was almost a little disappointed when this trend started to pick back up as I've been wearing one shoulder items for years and liked the fact that most people didn't wear it. Now you can barely go anywhere without seeing a one shoulder top or dress.

As I mentioned before, the theme of my wedding is urban vintage and one shoulder dresses definitely represent vintage. In my search for my dress, I came across a BEAUTIFUL one shoulder dress by Val Stefani.

Val Stefani is the couture line for Moonlight Bridal and also has other beautiful dresses included in the line. The dress had some major elements that I was looking for. The mermaid silhouette, a strap, ruching throughout the bodice, it was practically perfect. The one thing that I didn't like about it is that the ivory color that it came in is practically white. I personally wanted a dress where it was visible to the camera that it was NOT white. I wanted something closer to dark ivory or champagne and the dress didn't come in anything close.

But I did love the dress. Do you think this is my dress?

Ophelia & Samuel

There's another beautiful wedding for you here today with Ophelia and Samuel. I like how the bride incorporated the turquoise into her color scheme. It's almost the same color blue that I want (not quite as I want teal blue). Enjoy!

This Helps Me Focus on What I Want....

A THEME!

I struggled a bit on focusing what I really wanted to shape my wedding around. I tried to gather my thoughts just around colors, but it wasn't enough. I really needed something to bring it all together.

I went through so many color schemes at first. At first, I thought I would do burgundy and peach.

I was stuck on that for awhile and thought the colors looked unique together. As I started looking at other possible combinations, I came across burgundy and plum.

Gorgeous isn't it? Well, from this, I was able to start focusing on other aspects of the wedding that I might want to include. I've always loved all things vintage, retro, and antique. So, I thought that I might also incorporate this in the wedding, as well.

So there we have it. I'll be having an urban vintage wedding with my colors being burgundy/wine, teal, plum, and gray. There's also another aspect of my wedding that is being HUGELY accented throughout but I'll be hinting about that throughout my planning as that is a part of the giveaway.

So what do you think of my color scheme?

Another Day, Another Venue

As my fiance and I continued our search for the perfect venue, we came across a venue called Vines Mansion.

Source

The mansion was originally owned by Charles and Myrna Adams in the mid eighties, but eventually became a public garden and event facility through the 90s and on. The mansion sits on about 25 acres of flowers and greenery which is absolutely beautiful.

The flowers, the gardens, the lake in the back.....everything was just ethereal. Being nature people, my fiance automatically loved seeing everything that Vines Mansion had to offer. When you first walk in, you're greeted by a somewhat grand stairway with VERY large rooms to either side of the stairway.

As we strolled through the mansion tour, we noticed that this event facility is REALLY a mansion in that it's built for a house, as opposed to an event facility. There are lots of separate rooms as in bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, a library, etc.,

Behind the mansion is a gazebo area with a view of the lake which is what makes the mansion so beautiful.

It's a gorgeous venue but there are few things about it that we don't like.

The first thing is that the venue is located 40 minutes outside of the city. Which also means that any of our guests that live 30 minutes in the opposite direction outside of the city would have over a hour ride to get to the wedding. I've been a guest at a wedding where I had to drive 1.5 hours to get to the wedding, and it was irritating to say the least. I wouldn't want my guests to have to drive that long just to get to the venue.

The second thing is that although we could fit all of our guests inside the mansion, all of our guests wouldn't be in one room. Because it is really built like a house, guests would be placed in separate rooms throughout the house for the reception. While that would work for some people, it's a little cumbersome and annoying and I'm not sure if that's going to work for us.

However, we did appreciate the fact that they had a Nigerian caterer on staff.

I guess we'll see if this is the venue that gets chosen.

Love Shoot - Ayo and Bimbola

This couple is FANTASTIC looking. I wish I owned her dress!

Photography by Fotograffi Photography

Photography Excerpt: ...I went to business school with Ayo, so I was thrilled when she emailed me to ask about an E-Session. I’ve known Ayo for several years now, and although I only met Bimbola more recently, they are both such a blast. The weather was crisp yet sunny, the kind of early fall morning that makes you stop and appreciate the day.

Wedding - Mike & Osasu

Today, we have a handsome groom (Mike) and an ethereal bride (Osasu). Just looking at the food makes me wish I was there....delicious! And I guess there was so much spraying of money, they forget to pick up the dollar that landed on the bride's dress....*giggle*...
