Wedding - Toki and Shean

I hope that everyone had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving Day. I, like many others, will be doing some Black Friday shopping. Hopefully, I won't spend too much...LOL. As promised, I have a beautiful wedding today for your viewing. Enjoy!!!

Photography Excerpt: I love wedding photography and have a good time at almost all the weddings I cover. The wedding day for most couples is a special occasion. It is a day when everyone is happy, full of smiles and great joy fills the air. I am an observer with my camera silently capturing timeless memories for my bride a groom. Often everyone wants me to join in the festivities but as a wedding photographer I know the action moves very quickly and thus being attentive is key to delivering those moments that simply take your breath away. After all when I am photographing a wedding I am in the office. I am certainly having fun as I am very passionate about photography but I am also cognizant that I am working. My goal at every wedding is to create beautiful pictures for my bride and groom. I first told you about Toki and Shean when I shot their engagement photography in Baltimore Maryland. We met once again but this time in Chicago where they had chosen to get married. The ceremony was at the very historic Moody Church near downtown Chicago. Toki looked amazing and after the ceremony we went the gardens at Lincoln Park and created some beautiful images. Here are few from the entire day

Wedding - Pearl and Ike

Photography by Bedazzled Photography
Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Photographer's Excerpt: A couple of weeks ago I blogged about Pearl and Ike’s traditional Nigerian wedding ceremony, so today I am blogging their white church wedding. It was a beautiful day for a Lagos wedding. The ceremony was held at Church of Divine Mercy, Lekki Lagos, while the reception was held at Pearl’s gorgeous home in Lekki as well. It was my pleasure shooting Pearl and Ike’s wedding given that I have known Pearl since I was 8 and now its sooo crazy that she is a MRS… OMG still cant believe it. I had so many favorite pictures that I would have OD’ed on the post so I just decided to leave it on the slide show. Yep you definitely wanna check out this slideshow.

Igba Nkwu - Pearl and Ike

Like the Yoruba tradition in Nigeria, there is also an Igbo tradition for the traditional marriage ceremony which is named Igba Nkwu (Nwanyi). While the grandeur is the same, the process is somewhat different. Again, I will detail the process of this custom in another post, but for now enjoy the photos below!!!

Location: Southeast Nigeria

Photographer's Excerpt: I was initially meant to be my childhood friend Pearl’s bridesmaid but somewhere along the line of wedding planning, she asked me to be her wedding photographer. It is always flattering when people who know you feel they can trust you enough to shoot their wedding so I was immensely flattered for the opportunity to travel to Nigeria to shoot this wedding. Pearl and Ike live in London but both their families reside in Nigeria and so they wanted to have their wedding at home. First up is the traditional ceremony which is customary in Igbo land (the eastern region of Nigeria) and is typically done in the paternal home of the bride. Igba Nkwu Nwanyi is pronounced [E ba un ku wayi]. Try that aloud and see if it doesn’t twist your tongue. It means “The Wine Carrying of a Woman.” The day was filled with warm golden sun, lots of dancing and local music as well as traditional food to eat. Yum.

Wedding Video - Michael & Abena

Every once in a while I'll come across a video that's worth taking a look at. I don't think videography at weddings gets paid enough attention.

Enjoy!!!

Olufemi (Abo) - Uche and Lekan

Olufemi (Abo) is the Nigerian (Yoruba) word for the traditional marriage ceremony. This ceremony is usually held before the "white" wedding and is done in the way of the ancestors according to tradition. This could also be looked at as the equivalent of the engagement party that Westerners hold when they get engaged. I will go into detail regarding the actual process of how this is done (versus other Nigerian traditional marriages) in another post. But for now, enjoy the photos below!!!

Photographer's Excerpt: below are pictures from uche and lekan's traditional engagement ceremony (nigeria). the whole process was interesting, to say the least. everyone had a blast!

Wedding - Toro and Onobun

Not every couple has to have (or wants to have, for that matter) a BIG wedding when they marry. Toro and Onobun were one of those couples. Below are some pics that were taken of their civil (court) ceremony. Enjoy!!!

Photography by Tunji Sarumi Photography
Location: Baltimore, Maryland

Photography Excerpt: Few days ago, I witnessed a remarkable civil wedding ceremony in Baltimore. This wedding was special because the bride and groom are close friends of Abi (my wife) and I. Toro, the bride, is my wife’s best friend and they have been good friends since middle school. They also graduated from the same college. I met Toro when I was dating my wife in college and we have been good friend ever since.
The couple got married in heart of Baltimore at the circuit court. The day was just right with a beautiful weather and ambiance. Onobun was glad to be getting married to the woman of his dreams.
I started taking pictures when they started getting ready to go to the court, and below are my favorite pictures from the day. Onobun and Toro, we are extremely happy for you guys, and may God continue to Bless and strengthen you as you have taken this big step.
